Halifax West students will showcase their art in January 2016 at the Keshen Goodman Library. Special thanks to Halifax West High Art Teacher, Rosemarie Perry and the Keshen Goodman Library’s youth librarian, Chantale Pard for coordinating this showcase. We invite all community members to stop in to celebrate our youth and their original works of art. Stay tuned for a sneak peak of some of the pieces to be displayed.
Ms. Perry has put up three frames of HWHS art work in the lobby of the HRSB building at Spectacle Lake and sent enough work to fill three more. Our student work will be on display there until the end of the school year.
HWHS has been invited to and has committed to displaying student work at the Keshen Goodman Library during the month of January 2016. We’re looking for submissions of recent student work. Please consider and submit work to Ms. Perry in B327, prior to December 10th 2015.
Continue to check out the visual arts display hall on the third floor. We’re frequently putting up new artwork, and showing off the brilliant creativity our HWHS students. We appreciate the audience 😉
PAINTS N.S. COMING SOON
Ms. Perry has been informed that both of her applications for bringing artists into the school have been successful.
On Thursday November 5th and November 12th, textile artist and NSCAD U professor, Joanna Close, will come in to do a half-day workshop each day with the grade 12 visual art class. They will go through fabric dying techniques, preparing their own fabric, designing a traditionally inspired work and then translating that design into a hooked rug.
Also there will be a Comic Illustration Series, 6 hours in total, where comic artist, Laura Kenins, will lead a group of max. 15 committed students through the basics of drawing comics through short classes focused on layout, dialogue, and characters. This will be three extended Friday lunches in November and December (Nov 27th a-block and lunch, Dec 4th c-block and then lunch, and Dec 11th b-block then lunch). This is LIMITED to 15 students ONLY. There will be a sign up sheet on Ms. Perry’s door mid- November, first come, first served with a nominal 3$ fee to secure your spot. Watch for it 😉
